Champignon
Latin name: Agaricus bisporus
Habitat: The champignon is one of the most widespread edible mushrooms and today it is mostly cultivated under controlled conditions. It grows on nutritious compost and organic substrates, most often in closed spaces where temperature, humidity and lighting can be controlled. In nature, it can be found in meadows, pastures and other grassy areas rich in organic matter.
Appearance: The mushroom cap is usually white to light gray in color, semi-spherical or rounded, with a smooth and firm surface. The flesh is white and compact, while the leaflets under the hat are initially light pink, and turn brown as they mature. The handle is white, solid and has a characteristic ring on it.
Champignon is one of the most commonly used edible mushrooms in the world. It is appreciated for its mild, pleasant taste and versatility in preparation, and it is used fresh, baked, fried, boiled or as an addition to various dishes.
